aura is an elo rating. every university starts at 1500 and moves only when real people pick it — or don't — in a head-to-head matchup. beating a highly rated school moves you more than beating a low-rated one.
there is no committee, no survey, and no reputation weighting. two universities are shown side by side, one vote is cast, and the elo formula updates both ratings. the leaderboard is just those ratings, sorted.
voting is free and needs no account. an anonymous ballot id is stored in a cookie so the same pair is not shown to you twice and so your taste card can be computed.
